Research Report #15
Team Decision Making
Great New Idea for Team Decision Making
End Confusion
There is a large body of knowledge available on team decision making. But, because of the confusion about what the scientific method really is, we have a bad decision making situation because of the lack of decision making leadership about the scientific method. Hundreds of different model formulas or none at all are taught and recommended.
Get Unity of Action in Team Decision Making
My extensive research on model formulas for the scientific method of decision making has produced the best available model for decision making ever available. It is suitable for a standard to be taught everywhere.
If you review my Research Report #4, Models, Systems, Guides for Decision Making in the Literature, you will get an idea of the wide variety of model formulas taught. Thus, when a team is organized, they are apt to proceed individually in a wide variety of ways that basically are not the best ones because of the lack of decision making leadership about the scientific method of decision making.
Teach Team Members SM-14 Steps and Stages of Decision Making
For unity of action in the correct steps of decision making, teach team members the SM-14 model formula. It is suitable for small or large group that may lack of decision making leadership. It is easy to get started on. Just furnish them with copies of my Guide and Worksheet for Applying the Complete Method of Creative Decision Making (SM-14). This is easily downloaded in PDF format (see the menu). Some knowledge and advice are also available on the page in my booklet Group or Team Decision Making and throughout the booklet. These all help in shared decision making.
Advantages of Team Decision Making Using SM-14
The unity of method using the same steps in decision making has many advantages.
Here is what Fran Rees says about the need for decision making steps (in Teamwork from Start to Finish (1997)):
"When the team follows a step-by-step procedure to get its work done, the team members are much less apt to founder, get confused, or give up. Instead, the team has a sense of control over its own destiny, and team members can see a shape to their collaborative efforts. The team can learn to chart its own course, evaluate its progress, and self-correct."
In addition to all these advantages you get:
- Focus of team on problem not performance or other distractions
- From Supporting Ingredients team members learn the need for falsification in evaluating decisions
- In participative decision making, members can work separately but still be on the same track
- Helps prevent team members going off on tangents
- Helps prevent conflicts and disputes
- Decision making leadership is better
Spread the Word about Using SM-14 for Team Decision Making
The SM-14 model formula is still relatively new, so spread the word about its availability for team decision making. |
