    Here Is How to Greatly Improve Political & Public Policy Decision Making

    First I call attention to the fact that in the 1800s and in the first half of the 1900s claims were made that the scientific method or scientific approach could, if applied to political and public or governmental policy, effect tremendous benefits for society. These claims are never fulfilled because of widespread misunderstandings about the scientific method. These claims also have to be discounted for the human element.

    At Stage 6 sample evaluation charts are shown. If more extensive ones had been prepared by our leaders, media, and political and public policy analysts about going to war in Iraq, a different decision might have been made.

    Great Changes in Decision Research since 1950 Have Improved Our Knowledge

    We can easily determine from our knowledge base today:

    •    Claims that the scientific method doesn’t exist are false.
    •    That the scientific method is really the complete method of creative problem solving and decision making for all fields, including our personal lives.
    •    That it is the best model for political and public policy analyses and others.
    •    That the public today is in general much better educated than prior to 1950.

    Decision Making Psychology & Knowledge Is Now Easily Available

    Over the years since 1950 there have been many good books published on problem solving and decision making as regards psychology and knowledge. Now with the availability of this site, Decisionmaking.org, there is a good abstraction, summary, and guide suitable for an introductory course in decision making for schools and individuals.

    Leadership Development – Present Leaders at All Levels Need to Catch Up

    Since decision making has been so inadequately taught, there is a great need for our present political leaders and others to learn more about it. The 48-page booklet on this site provides a lot of the knowledge they need to learn. Before important decision, they should use this booklet as a guide and refresher. The SM-14 guide forms should also be used.
